For all of you who have expected it, and for those who
find it a surprise, here it is! I made it especially important to me to be out
and about to witness the Lunar Eclipse last night, Jan. 20, 2000. I am having
pictures of it developed, but until then, you will have to settle with the
cheesy animation I made, depicting how I remember seeing the eclipse.
For those of you who have never seen a Lunar Eclipse, I must say, it is
always a lovely sight. For those of you who have, let me first begin by saying
that this was no ordinary Lunar Eclipse. The media made certain they had
informed the public earlier this week of this astronomical sight with emphasis
on "Complete Lunar" eclipse.
There is certainly something to be said
about the association with the color purple, its association with spirituality,
and how we've blasted off into the transition period between the last century
and the next. It truly was a wonderful beginning into the "Age of Aquarius".
There were high winds about, undoubtedly because of the stage of the moon. It
did not last very long, but I found it quite enjoyable, at least what I did see
of it.
Its progress was slow for a time, and it actually looked like the
darker side of the moon were a reddish tint, but for the most part, it was of a
purplish color.. dark(red-purple) to light(lavender). Myself, and three friends
found comfortable places outside, watching it for a little while. Honestly, that
night felt unique to all of us. One individual mentioned that it instilled a
level of enlightenment, the kind that is usually reached after performing a
ritual.
